Do You Really Know What Foods to Eat

Do you really know what foods to eat for a healthier body? It’s not always easy if you cruise the internet for information. Even the magic government food pyramid doesn’t tell the whole story. In recent years, Americans are eating more and more fast foods and convenience foods, which contain additives and lack nutrition. Getting back to the basics is one way of insuring your diet is healthy and the best one for your needs.

Eating whole foods is a start.

Whole foods are foods with minimal preparation. Raw foods, for example, are the ultimate of whole foods with foods like Twinkies and deep fried Oreos ranking right up at the top of the list of highly processed. In fact, a rule of thumb is to look at the ingredients before you eat a food. If you can’t pronounce the ingredients or they sound strangely like a chemical compound, don’t eat the food.

Mix up the colors you eat for a healthier meal.

That doesn’t mean a bag of multicolored M&Ms or Skittles is good for you. If you’re eating whole foods, select a wide variety of colors. Each vegetable of fruit contains phytonutrients that can benefit the body. Some of these give the fruit and vegetable the color. For instance, the bluish purple color of blueberries comes from anthocyanin, a powerful antioxidant, while the orange color of carrots comes from beta-carotene which is a precursor for Vitamin A and provides many different health benefits. A multicolored dinner plate insures you’ll be getting a wider variety of nutrients.

If you’re like most people, you’re busy with not only your own career, but also family. That makes taking the time to do extensive research difficult. One way to insure you’re eating healthy is to get help from experts who study nutrition. You’ll benefit from their expertise and save time, while also learning ways to make healthy eating extremely delicious.

You don’t have to starve, eating just rice cakes and celery, to eat healthy. Most people say they feel full and satisfied and never feel deprived.

You can still eat some of your favorite foods. Small changes in the recipe can make your favorites healthier but not change the taste.

Eating healthier means you’ll never have to diet again. While it’s delicious and filling, it’s also lower in calories.

You’ll be amazed at just how good healthy food tastes. Many of the dishes use herbs and spices—which also add nutrients without adding calories—to create almost gourmet dishes.
